Depati Amir Airport

Depati Amir Airport (English: Depati Amir Airport) (IATA: PGK, ICAO: WIPK) also known as Pangkal Pinang Airport, is an airport located in Pangkal Pinang City, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. This airport is managed by PT. Angkasa Pura II since January 2007. Initially it was named Pangkal Pinang Airport which was built since the Japanese occupation in 1942 as a defense from the attack of allied troops. In accordance with the letter of the Secretary General of Ministry of Transportation No. 378 / TLK / DEPHUB / VIII / 85 dated August 22, 1985 the name of the Airport was changed to Airport. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Transportation No. SK.1 / AU.106 / PHB-99 dated 25 August 1999, the name of Pangkalpinang Airport was changed to Depati Amir Airport, which is a UPT of the Vertical Agency of the Directorate General of Air Transportation, Ministry of Transportation.

Since January 1, 2007, the airport has been handed over to a state-owned company in charge of managing several airports in the western region of Indonesia, namely PT. Angkasa Pura II (Persero).

This airport has experienced many physical changes, both in the area of ​​passenger terminals, runway facilities, aprons, and airspace. The passenger terminal continues to expand. The runway, initially in the form of a stretch of grass, then hard ground or commonly called a runway strip. As the capacity and size of the aircraft increases, the runway is developed with asphalt construction.

In 1978, the base was moved to shift westward for about 75 meters, with a length of 1200m. Then it gradually continued to be extended by 1600 m, 1800 m, 2000 m and then in 2013 the runway had reached a length of 2250m x 45m. In the history of the extension of the runway, it had also cut a highway, so that eventually the highway was diverted towards a more suitable lane. Until now, this airport runway has been able to accommodate Boeing 737-800NG / 900ER, & Airbus A320 type aircraft, although in limited capacity.

The airplane parking lot (apron) has overlapped several times (thickening of asphalt). Until now, the airport apron has been able to accommodate 4 wide-body aircraft at once, such as the type of Boeing 737-800NG / 900ER, & Airbus A320.

For air space controlled by the Air Traffic Service Unit of Depati Amir Airport, initially it only served as far as the area around the airport to a height of 2500 feet. In 1992, boundaries developed, with horizontal limits of up to 30 Nm, and vertical boundaries of 15,000 feet. In 2008 after being managed by PT. Angkasa Pura II, the horizontal limit is widened to a varying distance of 80 Nm, while the vertical limit is up to 24,500 feet.

Since January 1, 2013 the management of air space at Depati Amir Airport has been transferred to Perum, the Indonesian Aviation Navigation Service Provider, also known as AirNav Indonesia.

PT Angkasa Pura II will conduct a Depati Amir Pangkalpinang Airport Master Plan Review. This was done in response to an increase in the number of passengers exceeding the estimated KP 623 in 2012 and changes in layout during development. In addition, PT Angkasa Pura II supports the plan of the Provincial Government of Bangka Belitung Islands to make Depati Amir Airport Pangkal Pinang become an International Airport.

The plan to develop Depati Amir Pangkal Pinang Airport will be carried out in three stages. Some of them, in the first stage of the runway which is now 2250 meters x 45 meters will be extended to 2600 mter x 45 meters. As for the apron from 410 meters x 92 m to an apron 420 meters x 123 meters. The General Manager of Depati Amir Airport Pangkal Pinang Chuanda explained, until 2017, passenger movements reached 2,053,947 Pax / year. It is projected that passenger movement will reach 5,205,583 Pax / year.

On March 14, 2019, the airport was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
