Tangerang - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) continues to follow up on the strategic partnership concept for the management of Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang. This step is the result of a follow-up to the signing of the strategic partnership agreement in the Indonesia Investment Forum activity held in Nusa Dua, Bali, last October.
Collaborating with Danareksa Sekuritas as a companion partner in the partnership bidding process, Angkasa Pura II opens the opportunity for prospective investors who are interested in cooperating in joint management and investment at Kualanamu International Airport.
The September-October 2018 period was the initial moment for Angkasa Pura II to move to introduce the fourth largest commercial airport in Indonesia. Angkasa Pura II's management conducted market sounding activities at the Global Airport Development (GAD) Forum in Singapore. Followed by one on one meeting at the IMF World Forum event in Bali with 12 strategic partner candidates from a number of European and Asian countries.
Starting from October 8, Angkasa Pura II has obtained a permit from the Minister of BUMN related to the establishment of a subsidiary that will manage and conduct the Kualanamu International Airport. This is a quick step towards implementing the strategic partnership.
The President Director of Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad Awaluddin also explained about the closest plan that will be carried out by management. "We have taken a quick step with the establishment of a subsidiary company PT. Angkasa Pura Aviasi which will focus on managing the strategic partnership of Kualanamu International Airport. The phase of this strategic partnership is divided into 3, namely preparation and market sounding, bidding process, and partner selection where currently AP II has completed the preparation and market evaluation process and is conducting key term sheet evaluations to proceed to the next phase, "Awaluddin explained.
The key term sheet evaluation process was carried out for the preparation of the Request For Proposal (RFP) document to be immediately distributed to prospective strategic partners, followed by a series of due diligence processes and the transaction implementation process targeted in mid 2019 winning partners. The strategic partner candidates for the management of Kualanamu International Airport are not only from within the country, but also from abroad. Until now there are 28 prospective strategic partners who have submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI) to Angkasa Pura II.
"We are running a series of administrative processes and of course on the way, we also have the main requirements for potential partners. What is clear is that it must be capable and experienced in managing airports and increasing traffic, having knowledge of the operational and business aspects of airports, and also having the ability to provide funding in the long run, "Awaluddin concluded.
At present the capacity of Kualanamu Airport is 8 million passengers per year which in 2018 the number of passenger movements in the airport of Kualanamu will reach around 10.5 million passengers and has exceeded the existing capacity so that further development is needed. In the future Kualanamu Airport is planned to become a hub airport for passengers and cargo in the western region of Indonesia and with an indicative investment value of US $ 500 million, Angkasa Pura II management is optimistic that it can obtain competent business partners. This cooperation offer will be the main attraction. Besides the support of the Regional Government in developing infrastructure, the economic potential of North Sumatra is also a supporting factor to attract more potential investors.
