Padang - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, inaugurated the Minangkabau International Airport Train on Monday (21/5). With this operationing, users transportation have an alternative services from and to the Minangkabau International Airport.

President Jokowi said that airport trains would be an alternative transportation option for those who want to go to the airport. "In addition to saving time, there is no need to traffic jam because this train is a freeway transportation. Only 35 minutes from the city of Padang."

"I also asked the President Director of AP II to request a plan to develop the Minangkabau International Airport, where the ultimate development of the airport from a capacity of 2.3 million passengers per year to 5.7 million passengers will begin this year and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019 , "Jokowi said.

The Minangkabau International Airport train itself has been operating since May 1, 2018 and after testing and certification testing by the Ministry of Transportation. "This train is a mode of transportation that leads to the airport which will facilitate passengers to mobilize," said Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), Muhammad Awaluddin, said, "To facilitate the mobilization of passengers from the Airport train station to, we provide skybridge". The 202.5 meter long Skybridge will offer users to search for locations from the Airport Train Terminal station to the opposite.

PT KAI's Managing Director, Edi Sukmoro, explained that the airport train has an operational time of 06.15 to 18.35 with a frequency of 10 trips per day. The length of the route is 25 km past 4 stations, with the route Padang - Tabing - Duku - Minangkabau International Airport (BIM). Awaluddin added that the price imposed by the train was quite affordable, namely for the Padang route - BIM was only charged Rp.10,000, - for Padang - Tabing and Padang - Duku for Rp.5,000.
