Cool, Soekarno-Hatta Airport is Now Using the Sun as a Source of Electrical Energy through PLTS

PT Angkasa Pura II is committed to implementing the Green Airport concept

Jakarta - Starting this month, Soekarno-Hatta Airport operates a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) Building.

Currently the PLTS operation is in the framework of a trial and it will be fully operational on October 1, 2020.

A total of 720 solar panel systems with photovoltaics with a maximum capacity of 241 kilo watts per peak (kWp) are installed on the roof of the building to provide electricity to sophisticated equipment at the AOCC facility. The AOCC building itself is one of the most vital facilities in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area.

The building is an integrated command post to ensure the smooth operation of Soekarno-Hatta, with personnel coming from PT Angkasa Pura II as the airport manager, then airline operators, air navigation and authorities such as Quarantine, Customs and Excise, Immigration, Police and so on.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin said that PLTS as an energy source in the AOCC Building is an entry point for New and Renewable Energy to be more used at the company's airports.

The operation of PLTS, Muhammad Awaluddin continued, is also the company's effort in implementing the Green Airport concept at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"New and Renewable Energy [EBT] deserves a place in the national airport sector, and PT Angkasa Pura II started this at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest airport in Indonesia. The hope is that what is being done at Soekarno-Hatta Airport can encourage other airports to also adopt EBT through PLTS. "

"The concept of developing PLTS within PT Angkasa Pura II is to complement the electricity supply needs of PLN," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

The operation of PLTS in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area is also in line with the efforts of the Ministry of BUMN to accelerate the development and utilization of solar energy in BUMN.

"We will discuss the possibility of using solar energy at other airports under the management of PT Angkasa Pura II," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

PT Angkasa Pura II Director of Engineering Agus Wialdi said the operation of the PLTS was an effort to implement the Green Airport concept at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"PLTS is an effort to apply the Green Airport concept by using new and renewable energy while at the same time making the airport operate more efficiently," said Agus Wialdi.

The PLTS in the AOCC Building was built by PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) which is also collaborating with a subsidiary of PT LEN Industri, namely PT Surya Energi Indotama.

President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Arviyan Arivin added that this PLTS is a form and commitment of BUMN synergy in developing new and renewable energy.

"We hope that such cooperation and synergy can continue and be improved in the future."

PT Angkasa Pura II and other stakeholders are committed to implementing the Green Airport concept at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. This is shown, among others, in the operation of electric taxis by Blue Bird and Grab, followed by electric trains, namely the Airport Train and Skytrain that connect terminals, as well as other electricity-based equipment.

Meanwhile, Terminal 4 which will be built at Soekarno-Hatta Airport will carry the concept of Smart Airport with advanced technology to implement Smart Mobility, Smart Security, and also a Smart Environment which further emphasizes the Green Airport concept.
