Safe Travel Campaign Runs, the Number of Aircraft Passengers in the Third Quarter of 2020 at PT Angkasa Pura II Airport Skyrocket!

Jakarta - Aviation traffic at PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) airports is slowly starting to improve amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Quarter III / 2020, the number of airplane passengers at 19 airports was recorded at 5.42 million people, an increase of 247.43% compared to Quarter II / 2020 of 1.56 million people. Meanwhile, aircraft movements increased by 107.7% or from 33,871 flights to 70,351 flights.

Especially at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia, the number of passengers during July - September 2020 reached 3.16 million people or skyrocketed by around 256% compared to April - June 2020 of 885,943 people. Meanwhile, aircraft movements at Soekarno-Hatta increased 114% to 40,596 flights.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the significant increase in the number of passengers and aircraft movements indicated that public confidence had begun to recover amid the pandemic.

Muhammad Awaluddin said that the restoration of public trust was inseparable from the efforts of PT Angkasa Pura II and stakeholders who launched a Safe Travel Campaign to ensure strict health protocols were carried out at 19 airports.

"The increase in passengers and aircraft movements in the third quarter of 2020 is very high, which indicates that public confidence is getting better because PT Angkasa Pura II airport implements various COVID-19 prevention efforts.

"Together with stakeholders, PT Angkasa Pura II is running a Safe Travel Campaign to realize a Safe, Healthy and Hygiene Airport. In fact, Soekarno-Hatta Airport received a relatively high Safe Travel Score, reaching 4.09 [out of 5], based on an evaluation of the Safe Travel Barometer due to the implementation of strict health protocols. This score is the highest in Indonesia and ranks 34th out of 200 airports in the world, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said the increase in passengers and flights also showed that the national aviation sector had a significant role in supporting activities and the economy in Indonesia, which is an archipelago country.

"The growth trend in aviation at PT Angkasa Pura II's 19 airports is also driven by the size of Indonesia's domestic market," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

International route activity
As for the fourth quarter of 2020, activity on international flight routes will increase, especially at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

In the near future, Indonesia and Singapore will implement Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) in the Safe Travel Corridor program. Through RGL, the two countries open special flights for business, diplomatic and official travel. The airport designated by the Indonesian government under the RGL scheme is Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Currently Soekarno-Hatta Airport operations also refer to the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 26/2020, which is one of the bases for the implementation of the Indonesia - Singapore RGL.

“PT Angkasa Pura II coordinates with the Immigration Office and the Port Health Office of the Ministry of Health [KKP Kemenkes] so that the implementation of the Indonesia-Singapore RGL runs smoothly at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. We have prepared everything, including check points for medical examinations and travel documents, ”explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Meanwhile, other international route activities that are expected to increase in the near future include flights to Saudi Arabia in line with plans to open permits for Umrah for Indonesian citizens.

Based on information, the Umrah service for Indonesian citizens will be open from November 2020.

PT Angkasa Pura II is committed to supporting the smooth running of the Umrah flight, especially in departure pockets such as Soekarno-Hatta Airport. In the near future, PT Angkasa Pura II will also propose an Airport Corridor Arrangement Initiatives to realize safe travel on flights from Jakarta to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

As for Soekarno-Hatta Airport, there are currently at least 12 airlines serving international flights with around 60 aircraft movements per day.

PT Angkasa Pura II currently manages 19 airports, namely Soekarno-Hatta (Tangerang), Halim Perdanakusuma (Jakarta), Husein Sastranegara (Bandung), Kertajati (Majalengka), Kualanamu (Deli Serang), Supadio (Pontianak), Minangkabau (Padang) , Sultan Syarif Kasim II (Pekanbaru), Sultan Iskandar Muda (Aceh), Raja Haji Fisabilillah (Tanjung Pinang), Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (Palembang).

Then, Sultan Thaha (Jambi), Depati Amir (Pangkalpinang), Silangit, Banyuwangi, Tjilik Riwut (Palangkaraya), Radin Inten II (Lampung), Fatmawati Soekarno (Bengkulu) and HAS Hanandjoeddin (Belitung).
