Healthy Flights Are Non-negotiable, PT Angkasa Pura II Introduces Biosecurity and Biosafety Management

15 Oct 2020

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) introduced the concept of biosecurity management and biosafety management in the national airport sector in the face of the tough challenges of COVID-19.

Both concepts are efforts to ensure the health of travelers and workers / staff at 19 airports.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said this was at the same time a concrete step for the company in creating an atmosphere that could maintain public trust and confidence in the aviation sector.

"This is also an effort by PT Angkasa Pura II to keep the flight optimally contributing to supporting community activities and supporting the economy," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

The biosecurity management is carried out to protect the public from the dangers of COVID-19, with the following programs:

1. Physical distancing: the obligation to maintain a distance in each area of the airport
2. Health screening: checking body temperature, checking the results of the rapid test / PCR test
3. Passenger touchless processing: more facilities without touch, for example in elevators, toilets, vehicle parking areas and other areas
4. Facility cleanliness: routine disinfection of all passenger carrying facilities
5. People protection: mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks for everyone at the terminal, both travelers and airport staff

Meanwhile, through biosafety management, PT Angkasa Pura II has a program:

1. Biohazard Precautions: Efforts to prevent and protect the health of airport service users from the threat of the Covid-19 virus outbreak.
2. Environment screening: Keeping the environment clean and healthy, for example the application of good air circulation, the use of UV sterilizers, and in the future the use of plasma clusters and HEPA filters at the terminal
3. Testing lab facilities: Soekarno-Hatta Airport is planned to have laboratory facilities to test for COVID-19 on travelers

4. Infrastructure sterilization: Disinfection is carried out in every building at the airport
5. Public health assurance: the company's airport has a handling protocol at the airport for those who are indicated to be infected with COVID-19

"The application of biosafety and biosecurity management must be carried out simultaneously, not individually, because the two concepts complement each other to create Airport Public Health Security," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Safe travel for international flights
Furthermore, in the midst of this pandemic, PT Angkasa Pura II assessed that biosafety and biosecurity management are also steps to increase trust in airlines on international routes.

"In the near future, Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be connected directly to Changi in Singapore via the Reciprocal Green Lane in the Safe Travel Corridor program. PT Angkasa Pura II also plans to run the Airport Corridor Arrangement Iniciatives program. Both of these must be done by ensuring the implementation of health protocols that have the same standards in every airport. "

"In the midst of this pandemic, health protocols at airports are very important and may become a requirement for international connectivity for a number of countries. Soekarno-Hatta Airport is ready for that because it has adopted biosecurity and biosafety management, ”explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Kualanamu Airport are currently two airports in Indonesia that have pocketed the ISO 45001 certificate, which is given because they already have an Occupational Safety and Health Management System for the Advanced level category. No other airports in the country have successfully pocketed this certificate.
