Soekarno-Hatta Airport Serves the Busiest Flight Routes in the World

14 Feb 2021

Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK) serves two of the world's busiest flight routes in February 2021.

Based on research from the UK-based global aviation analysis institute OAG, two flight routes to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in February 2021 are included in the top 10 busiest domestic routes in the world based on the available flight seat capacity.

The route is Jakarta (CGK) - Medan Kualanamu (KNO) which is ranked 7th with a flight seat capacity reaching 382,975 seats. The Kualanamu Airport is also one of the airports managed by PT Angkasa Pura II.

Another route that is included in the busiest domestic route in the world is Jakarta (CGK) - Makassar (UPG) which is ranked 9th with the availability of flight seats as many as 370,931 flights.

The first rank of the busiest domestic route in the world is Jeju International (CJU) - Seoul Gimpo (GMP) with 1.19 million flight seats.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin said the OAG research indicated that the company and other stakeholders were able to maintain operational activities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport properly amid the COVID-19 pandemic so that they could continue to support air activities and connectivity in Indonesia.

"The high capacity of flight seats indicates demand, which also means that stakeholders are able to maintain air and operational connectivity at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. We, together with all stakeholders, will ensure that health protocols are properly implemented in the departure and arrival channels, so that all airport and flight activities run smoothly, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

"Two domestic routes were entered as the busiest domestic routes in the world in February 2021, and if you look at the two busiest routes, namely from and to Kualanamu, then from and to Makassar, are not tourist destinations. This is in line with the government's appeal, that long trips should only be for important and urgent needs, ”said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added that OAG's research also made PT Angkasa Pura II and other stakeholders more alert in implementing health protocols.

"PT Angkasa Pura II as the airport operator along with other stakeholders such as the Airport Authority, the Air Task Force for handling COVID-19, KKP Ministry of Health, TNI / Polri, AirNav Indonesia, airlines, ground handling parties and so on are committed to maintaining Soekarno-Hatta Airport operations by complying with regulations. including related to health aspects that were enforced in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are trying to keep the aviation sector able to continue to contribute in supporting the National Economic Recovery [PEN] program. "

PT Angkasa Pura II appealed to prospective aircraft passengers to pay attention to the requirements that must be fulfilled before making a flight as listed in the Ministry of Transportation Circular Number 19/2021 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Domestic Travel with Air Transportation during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and Number 21/2021 regarding Guidelines for International Travel by Air Transportation during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
