The Minister of Transportation also asked for a breakthrough in MRO development at Kertajati Airport

Jakarta - All stakeholders collaborate in encouraging the development of Kertajati Airport.

As is known, Kertajati Airport is owned by PT Bandara Internasional Jawa Barat (BIJB) whose majority shares are held by the West Java Provincial Government (83.20%), then PT Angkasa Pura II (14.62%), West Java Cooperative (1.54%). ) and PT Jasa Sarana (0.64%). Meanwhile, AP II also acts as the operator of Kertajati Airport.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi on Sunday, January 9, 2021, made a review of Kertajati Airport and held a meeting with PT West Java International Airport (BIJB), PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II), PT GMF AeroAsia Tbk, and AirNav Indonesia.

The Minister of Transportation said that Kertajati Airport could become a center for logistics and aircraft maintenance (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul / MRO) activities.

"We must intensively socialize what goods can be sent via Kertajati Airport and also the advantages of more efficient costs," said the Minister of Transportation.

In the same place, President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin said the company supports the Menhub's direction to make Kertajati Airport a logistics center and MRO.

Muhammad Awaluddin said the development of Kertajati Airport as a logistics center was appropriate to be carried out this year in line with the positive trend of air cargo throughout 2021.

"This is the right time to develop Kertajati Airport as a logistics center. The aircraft passenger transportation sector is still in the recovery stage, but the air cargo transportation sector has shown positive results. For example, throughout 2021 the movement of cargo transportation at 20 airports managed by AP II cumulatively reached 945,547 tons, a significant increase of 24.6% compared to 2020," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin said the increase in cargo transportation volume was mainly influenced by the active e-commerce sector.

"Kertajati Airport must be able to seize this opportunity, where in 2022 we estimate the volume of cargo transportation will continue to grow, driven by the increasingly active e-commerce sector. We estimate that the volume of cargo transportation at 20 AP II airports in 2022 can reach a total of around 1 million tons. Kertajati Airport and AP II airports must ensure that they can accommodate the needs along with the growing volume of this cargo transportation, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin said BIJB had plans to build an e-Commerce hub cargo area at Kertajati Airport as a facility to support e-Commerce, especially regarding the delivery of goods/cargo.

President Director of PT BIJB Muhamad Singgih said the e-Commerce hub at Kertajati Airport has an area of ​​​​about 68.4 hectares.

"Kertajati Airport will build an e-Commerce hub with an area of ​​about 68.4 hectares and a capacity of up to 500,000 tons per year. Currently, there is a development plan to build this e-Commerce hub," explained Muhamad Singgih.

Furthermore, Muhamad Singgih said Kertajati Airport as a logistics center will support the Rebana Metropolitan area as a motor of economic growth in the Northeast region of West Java.

MRO
On the same occasion, the Minister of Transportation also requested that the MRO development carried out at Kertajati Airport prioritizes breakthroughs, innovations and the latest technology.

"There must be a breakthrough in the development of MRO," explained the Minister of Transportation.

Kertajati Airport itself is exploring various opportunities, including cooperation with PT GMF AeroAsia Tbk to provide MRO services that are innovative, optimal and in accordance with global standards.

The Minister of Transportation also suggested that the MRO development be carried out on top of the existing apron.

One of the MRO development plans that puts forward the latest innovation and technology is to build an inflatable structure hangar on the existing apron of Kertajati Airport.

GMF AeroAsia estimates that the operation of the inflatable structure hangar can be carried out within the next 5 months if it has received approval.

"GMF AeroAsia is interested in building an AMO Center area at Kertajati Airport, which consists of learning services, component shop, engine shop, hangar/airframe maintenance, logistics center and manufacturer," said GMF AeroAsia President Director Andi Fahrurrozi.

Through the AMO Center, Indonesia gets a number of benefits, namely maintaining and improving aspects of air transportation safety, accelerating economic recovery, attracting investors, increasing foreign exchange, expanding employment opportunities.

Muhamad Singgih said with the support of various parties, Kertajati Airport could achieve a large aircraft maintenance market potential, because around 46 percent of Indonesian aircraft still carry out aircraft maintenance abroad.
