Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta Airport is one of the earliest locations in Indonesia that can provide access to the Telkomsel 5G network.

The Telkomsel 5G network is currently located at a number of points in Terminal 3 and its coverage will gradually be expanded.

"Soekarno-Hatta Airport, especially Terminal 3, is the earliest location in Indonesia that can provide 5G access, and of course this provides the best digital experience for travelers, airport visitors and airport staff. This is in line with the digital transformation that has been carried out by AP II since 2016, where the company's airports must continuously develop digital infrastructure in providing services," explained PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin.

In the early stages, AP II and Telkomsel developed collaborations based on 5G technology, which included 5G Fixed Wireless Access, 5G Experience Corner and 5G Solution services at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Muhammad Awaluddin said the existence of 5G can provide a pleasant experience for travelers while at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

“5G technology makes data connections up to 20 times faster than 4G, thus providing a new experience when we want to download (download) something or watch streaming video. In addition, 5G technology also allows for smooth and good use of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality," Muhammad Awaluddin explained.

The existence of the Telkomsel 5G network in Terminal 3 also received a positive response from travelers and airport staff.

Indonesian telecommunications leader who is also the founder of the IndoTelko Forum, the Indonesian IoT Association (ASIOTI) and the Indonesia Digital Society Forum (IDSF), Doni Ismanto Darwin said the presence of 5G access at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is very helpful for traveler activities.

For him, 5G access is very helpful in completing work while waiting for flight departures.

“Surprised when leaving for Lombok on Thursday, March 17, when heading to Boarding Gate 11, I saw that the mobile phone signal bar changed to 5G from the usual 4G. As usual, I always choose my favorite place in front of the window while watching the planes parked. when directly trying 5G service at gate 11 which is very joss, there is no lag for video streaming or for downloading work data.

“It's really helpful for someone like me, who usually takes advantage of the time waiting for departure while finishing work. The presence of 5G in Soetta is truly a symbol of digital transformation by Angkasa Pura II," said Doni Ismanto Darwin.

Meanwhile, Wawan, a passenger on an international route who was waiting for departure, and had experienced Telkomsel 5G access at the Airport Digital Lounge Terminal 3, said that the presence of 5G provided added value for airplane passengers.

"For 5G it is very supportive, downloads are faster than 4G. For video resolution from Youtube and so on, for the highest quality (video) it is very supportive, very clear (video quality)," he said.

Meanwhile, Bagas, one of the workers at Terminal 3 said that 5G speed can support various activities. "The difference is that 5G is definitely faster than 4G."

Meanwhile, when the speed test was carried out, the speed of Telkomsel 5G at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport was able to penetrate download speeds of up to 237 Mbps or many times faster than 4G which was around 16 Mbps.

The implementation of 5G network technology infrastructure at Soekarno-Hatta Airport has also followed the rules set by the government through the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information, especially in the utilization of telecommunications network frequencies that meet security and safety standards for airport and flight operations.
