4 AP II Airports Have Security Standards to Prevent Terrorism, Earn Certificates from BNPT

Out of 16 strategic vital objects and public facilities receiving certificates, 4 of them are airports which are entirely managed by AP II including Soekarno-Hatta Airport

Jakarta - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has awarded 2022 Minimum Security Standard certificates to 16 managers of strategic vital objects and public facilities.

Out of 16 strategic vital objects and public facilities receiving certificates, 4 of them are airports which are entirely managed by PT Angkasa Pura II.

AP II airports receiving the certificate are Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport (Aceh), Kualanamu Airport (Deli Serdang), HAS Hanandjoeddin Airport (Belitung) and Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Banten).

The BNPT said that it was hoped that the delivery of this certificate would enable managers of strategic vital objects and public facilities to continue to improve the quality of security from the threat of criminal acts of terrorism.

"We must have a collective spirit and collaboration in fighting terrorism to increase deterrence and deterrence in preventive efforts to prevent criminal acts of terrorism," said Head of BNPT Komjen Pol. Dr. Boy Rafli Amar, M.H. in a written statement.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the certificate provided by the BNPT showed that AP II was committed in the security aspect to prevent acts of terrorism at the airports it manages.

"The airport is a vital object and the main entry point for the country, so it is very important for AP II to have a standard of security to prevent and ensure that the airport is always safe from all forms of terrorism. Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia, along with 3 other airports, has received a Minimum Security Standard certificate from BNPT."

"Airport security has always been the focus of AP II, especially in preventing and handling terrorism or radicalism. AP II together with BNPT, TNI and Polri, as well as other stakeholders will continuously improve security aspects at airports to be able to always prevent forms of terrorism and radicalism, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

AP II Director of Operation Muhamad Wasid said the security aspect at AP II airports was strengthened by personnel who really understand the potential threat of terrorism and radicalism.

Apart from Aviation Security (Avsec) personnel, security at AP II airport was also strengthened by elements from the TNI and Polri.

"Good collaboration between Avsec and the TNI and Polri has greatly strengthened security at AP II airports. We express our gratitude for the support of the TNI and Polri who participated in securing the AP II airport," said Muhamad Wasid.

Furthermore, Muhamad Wasid said AP II airports were equipped with the latest facilities to prevent terrorism.

"AP II Airport is equipped with a number of security facilities to prevent and deal with acts of terrorism. These facilities include CCTV with analytics capabilities, a level 5 baggage handling system like at Soekarno-Hatta Airport which is capable of detecting explosives."

"AP II also has explosive containment with the first advanced technology in Indonesia called Nakula," explained Muhamad Wasid.

Nakula is currently on alert at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, to carry out counter-terrorism activities quickly, especially on checked baggage that is suspected of threatening safety. All Nakula operations are remotely controlled by personnel.

If security personnel or security facilities such as x-rays detect the presence of hazardous materials in the baggage of airplane passengers, then the baggage can be directly put into Nakula, for then Nakula will protect the surrounding area from harmful effects such as explosions. The capacity that Nakula can withstand is up to 5 kg of TNT, and the toxic gas that arises can also be isolated by Nakula.

The next process is for the authorities to drag Nakula to the disposal area to dismantle the object of the explosion. All Nakula operations can be done remotely using a remote control.

Through collaboration between Avsec, TNI and Polri, and strengthened by various latest security facilities, AP II hopes that the airports managed by the company can always prevent and overcome acts of terrorism and radicalism.
